How to make a glass baby bottle using mason jars, is one of our favorite Mommy Hacks.
This is a cost-effective, way to feed your baby. Plus there is ZERO plastic in this homemade baby bottle. Just a glass mason jar, silicone nipple, and a metal jar ring.
A good quality glass baby bottle can range in price from $8-16 depending on the brand. Instead, you can use mason jars that you already own, or purchase regular neck mason jars for as little as .71 cents for 4oz jars! Plus the cost of the nipples comes in at about $3.50 per nipple. Here we picture an 8oz and 12oz mason jar baby bottle.
*Added Bonus* – Most mason jars are freezer safe, pumping moms can easily store their breast milk in the mason jars and warm as needed. AND you can use the sweet little 4oz mason jars for homemade baby food.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Place the Comotomo baby bottle nipple inside of the ring provided with the mason jars. It is going to be a snug leak-proof fit. Next, take your regular neck mason jar and screw the ring with a nipple attached to the mason jar. It may help to wet the bottom of the ring where the nipple will touch the jar. The Comotomo nipples are vented so you should not experience issues such as nipple collapse, but if you do, you may have the ring firmly tightened to the mason jar.

FYI, the Comotomo silicone baby bottles are some of the best out there, if you prefer a lightweight option and non-glass.
Here are some of our favorite items to bling up your glass mason jar bottles.
Have you tried using these in a bottle warmer? Specifically I am getting the Kiinde Kozi bottle warmer.
I think that the mason jars would be too wide for all of the warmers currently on the market. The best option would be to warm in a pot of warm water.
Would Tommee Tippee nipples work on mason jars? Maybe wide-mouthed?
Can I use Tommee Tippee nipples?
do you know what baby bottle lids might fit on the mason jars?
Are there any bottle caps that fit over the nipple and securely onto the jar? Thanks!
Do you know if the Comotomo bottle caps will fit on this DIY version of the Mason bottle? Or if I should just buy the Mason brand nipples and caps to fit this?
I have the empire mason jars and they are not too big for my kiinde bottle warmer
The Tommee Tippee nipples will not fit on mason jars ;(
Thanks for this guide! Your entire website is very useful. I’m trying to get my exclusively breastfed 1 year old to take bottles every now and then so I can work. I’ve breastfed 2 other babies, but never used bottles. This whole world of bottles, nipples, breast pumps is so foreign to me but I really appreciate your charts!
Do the comotomo caps fit over the nipples when used on a mason jar?
I have Laruel’s same question. Do the Comotomo bottle lids fit over the DIY mason jar bottles with Comotomo nipples?
Hi Candice,
The Comotomo lids will not fit over the nipples, because of the colors (mason jar rings) they are too wide and ribbed. The best work about is to put a solid cap, mason jar lid on when not using the bottle. Hope that helps.
Hi Emily, The Tommee Tippee nipples do not work with mason jars. The size is just not exactly right.
Thank you for this DIY! Wish I had found your site sooner! We made an 8 oz and it fits perfect in our Munchkin bottle warmer. I also found some mason jar silicone sleeves on Amazon, that might work well if we can convince our little one to take this nipple!
Thanks, Kristie!
Thank you for sharing. You just saved me from buying the DIY Mason Jar kit that’s so popular.
Does anyone have experience doing this with Avent nipples? Have anyone experienced any leakage where the metal meets the nipple when using the Comotomo nipples?
Has anyone tried Nuk nipples in a mason jar? Just curious if it would work, or if Comotomo is the only brand you’ve found to fit. Thanks for the post!
Mason Bottles also has nipples, lids, and silicone sleeves for jars. I haven’t gotten to try them out (I haven’t given birth yet!), but was excited to find them online.
I like the mason bottle so far, I am a little worried about my dd holding the heavier glass, but I think the lighter weight glass bottles will break too easily…
What about Baby Brezza nipples?
